Spring / Summer / Easter / Autumn
The Snowy Mountains is a beautiful place to visit in summer and autumn. Southern Cross offers great fellowship, including short devotions at breakfast and short Bible discussions most evenings. You can sit around and talk, play games, and there is also plenty of space to just quietly read and pray.
Southern Cross is accessible by car during late spring, summer and autumn, making it a popular time for young families and the less mobile to visit. Click here for more details on our facilities.
BEFORE your visit, do read Getting to Southern Cross including Kosciuszko Vehicle Entry Fees and we also suggest that you check out Kosciuszko Visitor Information including Thredbo-Perisher area maps and downloads and Kosciuszko National Park area maps and downloads.
On the way to or from Smiggins, you could consider visiting either or both the Cooma Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and the Jindabyne NPWS Visitor Centre.
Per Perisher maps and Kosciuszko maps, there are many day walks within easy access of the lodge, including Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mainland mountain. NPWS has been improving many shorter and longer walking tracks such as between Guthega and Charlotte Pass, Charlotte Pass and Perisher, and recently between Perisher and Bullocks Flat. Canoeing, swimming and fishing are possible, as well as admiring the High Country wildflowers. On warm evenings in summer, many guests have enjoyed a barbeque at the Trout Hatchery near Jindabyne, or have watched the sun set over the Main Range at Charlotte Pass. There are also various coffee shops, arts & craft in & near Jindabyne, and many other activities at Jindabyne, Thredbo and Crackenback Resort.
Or just relax at the lodge in quiet (even on New Year’s Eve) Smiggin Holes.
