Southern Cross Alpine Lodge is located within Kosciuszko National Park in Southern NSW per the above maps at 43 Corroboree Road Smiggin Holes. Corroboree Road winds up the hill behind the Smiggins Hotel.
Whilst some of the following information is snow season specific, much also applies the rest of the year. It is being updated for 2025 as information comes to hand. Please email us any suggestions.
For Snow Season travel to Perisher & Smiggin Holes from Sydney & Canberra info, see
www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/Kosciuszko-National-Park/Visitor-Info#Getting-there-and-parking, www.perisher.com.au/plan-your-trip/getting-to-perisher/getting-here and generally dig around on the Internet. www.greyhound.com.au/buses/snow-express run snow services, but probably NOT Murrays Coaches. All year on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, you can book NSW TrainLink with connecting bus to Jindabyne – see www.transportnsw.info/plan/places-to-visit/snowy-mountains, www.transportnsw.info/tickets-opal/regional-tickets-fares and www.transportnsw.info/regional-bookings – type from "Sydney (Central)" to "Jindabyne NSW" – concession & senior prices as well as $1 child prices apply. Some companies per the next paragraph provide transport between Canberra & Smiggins.
During the 2024 snow season, there was very affordable one way/return from $8/$12 child & concession, $16/$23 adult transport between Jindabyne and Perisher/Smiggins per www.transportnsw.info/news/2024/snowy-mountains-bus-service and www.coomacoaches.com.au/snowy-mountains-bus-service. You can even park your car free at the Station Resort. Transport NSW advertises this service as "an affordable and stress-free way to get to and from the ski resorts, running every hour, with enhanced Friday to Sunday peak snow season services running every 30 minutes", and so may be a suitable lower cost alternative to Bullocks Flat & Ski Tube. ALTHOUGH note that this service is only to Perisher, so you then need to take the shuttle bus back to Smiggins, and there may be peak period luggage restrictions. Other snow season direct travel options between Jindabyne & Smiggin Holes (subject to booking & availability) include SNOWY Access Ph 0497 827 339 who have 2 @ 4WD for charter for up to 4 people, as well as www.alpinecharters.com.au, www.snowymountainsshuttles.com.au, www.snowlinkshuttle.com.au and www.snowconnect.com.au. All these services are very busy, so you may need to pre-book – you may be able to coordinate and share a booking with other Southern Cross guests.
Per www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/Kosciuszko-National-Park/Visitor-Info#Fees-and-passes, www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/passes-and-fees/annual-passes and www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/passes-and-fees/annual-passes/how-to-buy, there is a vehicle entry fee for Kosciuszko National Park (even if parking at Sawpit Creek). A 20% discount applies to Seniors Card holders for annual entry passes (requires rego papers in name of Seniors Card holder) and Pensioner Concession Card holders may be eligible for free entry. HOWEVER, www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/passes-and-fees/discount-and-concession-passes#pensioner-and-veterans-concession-annual-passes can take up to 3 business days to process and so you need to apply ON‑LINE well ahead of your arrival to get these discounts.
From the June LWE till the October LWE, snow chains must be carried (except AWD & 4WD), usually the road up to Southern Cross is closed to traffic, there is no free overnight parking available within Smiggin Holes or Perisher (except sometimes very early and late snow season), and only VERY limited $45 or more per night parking at the Smiggins Hotel which CANNOT be reserved. If you do drive to Smiggins, there is a 15 minute drop off zone behind the Smiggin Holes Hotel just past their car park.
Many of our snow season guests still take Ski Tube to Perisher (no NPWS car entry fee & no snow chains required) and then the free daytime (later when night skiing is on) shuttle bus to Smiggins, BUT THERE ARE PASSENGER & LUGGAGE RESTRICTIONS during peak periods. See links from www.southerncrossalpinelodge.au/news/#PerisherPrices for Ski Tube single day, 14 day open return and season pass details in conjunction with Epic Australia & Age 70+ passes. But also see Jindabyne to Smiggins suggestions above which may be more convenient and more cost effective, and then take the fee shuttle bus to Smiggins.
Whether you take Ski Tube or the bus from Jindabyne to Perisher, as an alternate to the free shuttle bus from Perisher to Smiggins and then walking to Southern Cross, you can pay 4SITE Australia (southern end of Ski Tube Perisher terminal) ph (02) 6412 2244 for 4WD or oversnow transport from Perisher to Southern Cross.
